So I didn't go to whatever cave that was with Joe, but from Valletta I caught the bus back out to another cave - Ghar Dalam.

This one has the collected bones of many animals going way back. You enter through the museum, go out the back door, and down some steps to the cave. It's a long tunnel with a walkway and some lights, but my camera was useless in there This Russian has some pics that are a little better.

Down off the sides of the walkway are signs indicating the time period of that level and some of what was found for that level.

The museum is lots of bones. Cases and cases and cases of animal bones. Cool to the point of being creepy. The museum was opened in the 30's and has that old feel to it. There's a bit about people and about natural history evolution and did I mention lots of animal bones?

One of the most curious things really is the human teeth. Teeth were found in the cave that appeared to be Neanderthal. They were assumed to be very old. Then a local dentist found the same sort of teeth in his patients. Of course this is not supposed to indicate that these people could be Neanderthals because they are all extinct of course and it's not fashionable currently to think modern humans could be descendants of them.

an article about the museum that mentions the teeth thing
