Near Shannon/Limerick is Craggaunowen.

They have a bit of a small old castle type structure and reconstructions of iron age settlements including the false island - crannog. Walk into a hut and see what it is like, imagine what living in it would be like. They have some examples of old daily technology - clay pit, hot stone cooking, weaving.

There's some random stones about the site, a small dolmen, some ogham stones, part of a wooden iron age road.

The 'Brendan' is a boat built in the 70s of the sort that St Brendan could have built - leather over wood as described in the manuscripts using old techniques. They sailed it across the Atlantic to Newfoundland in 1976-77 proving that the Saint could have done the same. It is there in a special built shed with video about the voyage.

But what was really cool to me and completely unexpected was the critters. There are some ancient breed sheep by the entrance, that look mostly like goats, showing how related the two are. And even more exciting wild boar in a pen by the Brendan. I took some videos of the boars. While I was watching a guy came to feed them, who said I could get closer to the fence and I did, but it's a little scary of course.

In the gift shop, because of the conversation the night before, I picked up a penny whistle (or 5 euro whistle as the case may be).
