Interesting and amusing study on advertising and consumerism. Set in a former communist country it applies pretty much anywhere these days.

Czech Dream

The film makers hire a major advertising agency to build demand for their new hypermarket (something like a Walmart/Tesco/Fred Meyer/etc) - Czesky Sen (Czech Dream). See how they do consumer research and develop a logo, stirring theme song, tv commercials, billboards promoting opening day - for a store that is merely a facade in a meadow.

Oh and Fri night I got some more people to watch Atarnajuat (Fast Runner)
spoilers

If you missed my posts a couple years ago, this is a fascinating film - set in northeastern Canada anytime in the last few thousand years. The people in it are all Inuit, and the language is. The props are all authentic - the dialogue is not expository - the tale is one passed down in the community.

Feel like I should make a trio of cool foreign films in the post since I have two mentioned... but do I gratuitously mention Totoro which many of you already know since it's just so adorable? or Goodbye Lenin! which more of you may have missed?
