I've seen a few versions and randomly copied [livejournal.com profile] darkmoons for no real apparent reason... well maybe because she had just the questions showing and the rest cut so it was easy to.

I mostly grew up in the SF Bay Area, but spent bits of time elsewhere and my mother is from Pennsylvania.

1. A body of water, smaller than a river, contained within relatively narrow banks?

My first reaction, the first time I saw this quiz was Stream of course, but then I realized that to me "Stream" is the concept, but specific examples of stream I call "Creek" (long "e") because it's usually part of its name.

2. What the thing you push around the grocery store?

Shopping cart. Fun-turbo-walking device -- wheeee ! :)

3. A metal container to carry a meal in?

lunch box

4. The thing that you cook bacon and eggs in?

Frying pan

5. The piece of furniture that seats three people?

couch or sofa

6. The device on the outside of the house that carries rain off the roof?

gutter along the roof line, rain spout for the pipe that comes down

7. The covered area outside a house where people sit in the evening?

porch, though I've only rarely lived anywhere that had one.

8. Carbonated, sweetened, non-alcoholic beverages?

Soda. ( In the Tri-cities they said sody-pop, ugh)

9. A flat, round breakfast food served with syrup?

pancake

10. A long sandwich designed to be a whole meal in itself?

sub

11. The piece of clothing worn by men at the beach?

swimsuit

12. Shoes worn for sports?

SNEAKERS, maybe tennis shoes, but mainly sneakers. In the Tri-Cities people said "tenny-runners" sense a patter of them making words too long?

13. Putting a room in order?

an anomaly? a good idea often overlooked? uh... cleaning up.

14. A flying insect that glows in the dark?

I've heard these exist and that they are supposed to be fireflies or lightening bugs. I don't talk about them, but if I did I prefer firefly.

15. The little insect (arthropod) that curls up into a ball?

Roly Poly ! I had some pet ones in 6th grade.

16. The children's playground equipment where one kid sits on one side and goes up while the other sits on the other side and goes down?

see-saw

17. How do you eat your pizza?

with my hands, starting from the point in if wedge shaped.

18. What's it called when private citizens put up signs and sell their used stuff?

Yard sale! or maybe garage sale.

19. What's the evening meal?

dinner

20. The children's game where one person has the task of catching any other whereupon they are given the same task?

Tag

21. I'll add in a paraphrase from [livejournal.com profile] bellacrow's version, along the lines of what do you call the room under the house with the furnace and sometimes a rec room.

Basement - especially if it is a real room. Most places I've lived its either just been a crawl space or a mud hole though. I might call the mudhole version a cellar, but not a root cellar like Bella did.
