should have mentioned no call list
Mar. 15th, 2008 12:45 pmSo last night I get a call, while I'm still doing work (telecommute).
Some woman is asking for Mr or Mrs MyLastName. I ask who is calling and why. She's calling about satellite tv. I say I don't have time for that and hang up.
A couple hours later what sounds like the same woman calls back. I don't think she said which satellite tv company (there is more than one right?). She says she wants to save me money on my television service. I tell her that is impossible since I don't have cable, I just use my antenna. I said I know I'll need to get a converter box, but I intend to keep on as I am otherwise.
She seems confused. She keeps asking how do I get my favorite channels" which she keeps trying to enumerate for me as "HBO, Cinemax, and Starz." I tell her if I want to see a cable series sometimes I'll rent the DVDs.
She keeps repeating how do I get my favorite channels and mentioning HBO. eh? I didn't bother trying to tell her that if I did get the cable/satellite extra channels that I'd probably watch more Discovery/BBC/Comedy/and home decorating shows. That would be admitting too much knowledge of what's on those channels and give her the option to upgrade her robot approach to mention what I would actually watch. I suppose that would have been an interesting test of her intelligence: could she switch her spiel to include what I would watch instead?
Instead I just assured her that I have no current plans to sign up for either cable or satellite tv. Then where I really should have remembered to mention that I am on the do not call list... She ends with saying they'll call back sometime in the future to see if I've changed my mind.
That probably gives her pre-existing relationship claim to call again. I'll try to remember to mention do not call.
