Ok, the only 'turkish' toilets I've encountered so far are in the bus station in Chania.
A lot of toilets do not have seats however. A somewhat surprising number to me. At some relatively nice places. One toilet at a nice cafe looked like it wasn't even made to have a seat, but more look like they originally had one, but it's gone missing and no one cares. At a gas station bathroom (that had a seat thank-you)today I saw a sign that might explain?
'Do not put paper in toilet seat' Now typically you are admonished not to put paper in the toilet (bowl), and generally one starts assuming this to be the situation even if the sign is missing.
Perhaps the seats go missing when people put paper in them?
Also today was amused by a no-smoking symbol on a trashcan for the toilet paper (same town, different bathroom). Picturing all sorts of awfulness from cigarettes tossed into bins of used toilet paper, um yuck, duh.
