These are for the beginning of Lent
Anna was specifically upset that ethnographers had said "They drive out evil spirits" and that now the people doing it will say that is what it is. When there is more to it, and people forget because they have this approved catch phrase to use.
Androgynous (the mixed sex nature of costume was pointed out to us in Voinyagovo, hard to see in these clips, though the dancers themselves are all men) large wild things at the beginning of Spring stomping the earth in a rhythmic dance with powerful bells on.
Seems to be a general danger - o this does 'x', that is what it is for, we can just do something to do 'x'. Well it also does 'b', 'g', 'q', and 'z' -- by focusing prematurely on 'x' (and passing on that as IT), you're in much danger of losing the other parts. Especially if you make changes based on this or "preserve" just this.

- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0mfvlmnmV0&mode=related&search= - staged and in the country side, women singing, a group dancing, then a bit of kukeri - linked because the kukeri part has that rhythmic unison of bells in the dance that was so striking when the people in Voinyagovo showed us their Kukeri
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5pptTlKH4I&mode=related&search= - an orderly little clip of Kukeri dancing through a square to music posted by a french speaker
Chaotic person on the street in village Kukeri films

- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c74a4M7UZfg&mode=related&search= - Kukeri V Burgas3 - Kukeri pushing people around
- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFFLiIhWlTU&mode=related&search= - Kukeri v Medin Rudnik, what are they yelling before they start dancing? The only word I could make out is Grazi which is replacing Blagodarya as thank-you.
