Bistritsa Babi and the "granddaughters"
May. 20th, 2006 01:59 amThe first night we had our first dinner together, in a too noisy with other people room, so afterwards we met up in another room for group introductions and some orientation info and a first chance to dance to the music of our two musicians on the trip (jana on teppan(drum) and karina on gaida(bagpipe)).
The first two days we got some introduction to what we were going to go see in the various places. Some of the symbolism, some of the changes as living traditions become transformed to performance pieces, some dance practice of dances we would be joining in with.
The first afternoon we took a short ride out to Bistritsa to see/hear the Bistritsa Babi (babi means grandmothers) and the "granddaughters". ( Babi blow us away )
So not even through the first full day, but I need to sleep and get up and dance tomorrow so more later.
