So of course I went to the Baylands to see the Morris at dawn Sunday.

Oddly enough Deer Creek Morris didn't use horns for the Abbot's Bromley this year.

Apparently it's their 20th year doing it. It was the 16th year I've been there. It would've been a bit tempting to go to the East Bay one, as I was over there till 4am, but supposedly some people were going to try to meet me at the Baylands, though of course they didn't(*).

Anyways, when it was time to do the dance at the end that they have everyone do, my dance partner introduced herself, and I said 'I know.' She seemed a bit surprised, but not completely 'You looked familiar, but I wasn't sure, where do I know you from?', 'Here and there' didn't quite satisfy her so I said [livejournal.com profile] zevblues name as I think I first connected her with her name at a party there. She was there with [livejournal.com profile] rowanf

Went home, slept for all of about 3 hours, then got up and fetched [livejournal.com profile] vakratunda and his visiting mother for a day of hanging around the Pruneyard. Where we had breakfast at Hobee's, saw the Interpreter, hung around a bit more in a few places, and finally ate a t Buca de Beppos.

So when we are walked back to our table, guess who it was right next to (as in I was maybe 18 inches apart when seated)? Yes the same dance partner. Who remarked that first vakratunda looked very familiar, and then realized that I was there too. She decided that she must know vakratunda from BayCon, but he's never been. She was pretty vehement about him being a vendor there?! She's not the first to think she knows him from Baycon. I'm thinking it's a little confusion of Pantheacon plus perhaps seeing him at Worldcon and just that people who look like him are likely to go somewhere like Baycon.

Okay, so it was just kind of small-world amusing to bump into each other twice like that.

What made it a little odder, was reading in rowan's lj, that she was at the Pruneyard that afternoon also and saw the Interpreter and Enron. She probably was at Enron while we were in Interpreter, though since we came in during the previews and left when the credits were done, I don't know who was in the theater besides us.

When I read that. I just kind of got this impression of human ribbons twining around a Maypole that day. Or maybe Campbell just is the center of the South Bay universe.

(*) So I got emails with their excuses/reasons, but we're only talking 5-6:30 am here, well we would have gone to breakfast after so maybe 8:30 or so, not all day. Like I said I've been going to this for 16 yrs, so I expect other people to also :-P

speaking of people who look like they'd go to Baycon... there were a lot of towels in that theater! ( Camera 12 9:55 Fri )

So I have mixed reactions. I've gone and looked at what people are saying about it on imdb and those are all really really high or really really low starred. I'm more in the middle.

I don't think I've ever seen a movie in that much of a state of anticipation, I had no patience for the trailers, and I usually enjoy that part.

I suppose it's okay that they made it into more of a linear plot (though some people on imdb were complaining that it wasn't linear and didn't have a plot). After all every version of this story has been different, so it was supposed to have scenes, characters, events that weren't in any of the previous ones, as well as keep the core bits which it did.

not really spoilers, but cut in-case of someone feeling it is )

So I was both a little disappointed by it and also liked it at the same time. I do want to see it again on DVD at least, and maybe in a theater. It's odd to adjust to seeing a movie for the first time, when all the best lines in it are ones you've known for 24 years from 3 other formats. (It would be 4, but I never got very far in the game version.)

Oh, and if you leave as soon as the credits start, it's your own fault if you miss anything.

I know a lot of you have seen it, what did you think? I'm especially curious about the opinions of those who didn't already know the story. Did it make sense? Was it funny? Did any of the appeal make it through?
