Yes it's been 3 months
Dec. 24th, 2004 11:04 pmNope, you haven't missed anything. It's been almost 3 months since I posted anything here.
As various people may have noticed from my commenting in their journals, I have been reading, just not typing entries.
I didn't post partly because at one point I was afraid it would turn into nothing but movie reviews (though there are a bunch more movies I have things to say about). Partly it's from being kinda busy, and partly pure procrastination.
What's up w/ me? Things are pretty much okay.
I'm still working and I still like my job. I still live in my own apartment with my kitty, and like it that way.
I'm taking an International Folk Dance class at adult ed. I used to do a lot of it a long time ago, and a little bit about 5 years ago. It's nice to be doing it again. There are a couple people who might be my age, a few who may be 50 something, most are 60s and 70s. I'm old enough now that that doesn't bother me like it did in my 20s when the folkdancers all seemed to be 40s and 50s. I really would like to see it get popular with some younger folks though. Is it going to die out?
Since I don't get any paid vacation as a contractor, and I'm still working on making up for the long low-to-no income stretch, I didn't stay up for the solstice as I usually would have.
In annoyance that my office room (in the apt) was still cluttered with boxes to the point that doing anything other than using the computer was impossible. I tried the experiment of hiring an organizer to come over last Sunday. It was worth it in that we did make a huge amount of progress in getting rid of boxes and making it possible for me to go through my files, and getting rid of old papers I don't need and dried out paint, and finding a lot of my personal papers I had been missing....
However she left talking about me having her come back and finish - That I think not. There were a few things that creeped me out
( mini-rant )
And what is it with people being freaked out that I sleep on the floor, and start talking about cluttering this place up with a bed or a futon? I LIKE sleeping on the floor. Basically my bed is more like a REAL futon than this stuff on clunky clumsy wood frames. I emigrated to Japan at an impressionable age (even if just for a short time) and I spent 2 weeks this year, back in Japan, sleeping on the floor of the same room as last time.... With a few of the right cushions the floor is a wonderful place to sleep.
Anyways I am glad of the progress we made, only regret getting rid of a few things. Have realized a few things about myself from reading some of what I found. So it's not bad, but I don't think I'll have her back.
I finally did sell the VW. I still have several boxes of beer bottles waiting for a home brewer. If all else fails maybe I'll count them as an unwanted present and bring them to tiggrrl's in a couple weeks.
On the actual present front - J gave me a book of John Crowley short stories :). I gave him a box of dishes and a box of silverware... that was sort of amusing, when I was shopping he was there and originally said he didn't want to go into that store, he wanted to wait in the car. Then he did come in, and when he saw what I had in the cart remarked that he was going to have to do that too. Then when I dropped him off, I put them just inside the back door of his apartment. He remarked at the time about me bringing something in... so I thought he knew what, but apparently not. Where I left them, they were kind of obscured by the bathroom door. So today - a couple of days later, he noticed what was there and asked me if it was meant as a present or what... hee now I feel sneaky. After I answered I realized that I should have blamed it on Santa Claus.
Tomorrow I meet w/ my mother and sister for lunch (no idea if my mother is cooking something or if we're going out or what, either would be fine) and present exchange.
Thanksgiving - on the day I cooked for me & J. For two people and with a small apt size stove a turkey is overkill, so I stuffed a chicken and baked yams and some other various side dishes. The day after (we don't always do holidays on the real day in my family) my mother and I went up to Berkeley to have Thai food w/ my sister & her gf.
Halloween - I was at a friends house and got to do the passing out candy thing there. One group of kids was 3 jr high age boys. I'm forgetting what one of them had on, but one had a Nixon mask, and the third was wearing a big wrapped box with a ribbon. The gift tag on his box said- From: God, To: Women. I had to call my friend over to witness that. Various other cute and silly and boring costumes were spotted as well.
